The Ash Tree

By Deborah P. Kolodji

...and Yggdrasil stood
as long as could be remembered
ancient branches, world-weaving
growing throughout nine worlds

but the earth trembled
with approaching change
wolf-jaws swallowed Odin
Ragnarokk, day of reckoning
deafening earth-splitting
no one shouted "Timber"

as the world tree fell
splintering into memory
ashes on the wind
pantheon of gods
becoming One
in a changing world.
